  12.                PC DRUMMER  is a  drum machine  program for IBM  compatables
  13.           with  a   Sound  Blaster.    It   combines  presampled  digitized
  14.           percussion sounds into patterns of  various musical styles.   You
  15.           can  also  create  your  own patterns  and  configure  individual
  16.           instrument  volume and  stereo  positioning.   No  MIDI or  other
  17.           hookups  are  required, but  home  stereo  amplification provides
  18.           maximum effect.

  20.                You don't need to be  a drummer to use  it, but it helps  to
  21.           know a few basic drumming concepts; measures, beats, rhythms, and
  22.           fills.  Here  goes. A song  is divided into equal  length musical
  23.           units called MEASURES.   Here,  every measure is  divided into  4
  24.           BEATS.  When you select a  PATTERN you are selecting a  repeating
  25.           measure long pattern of drum hits.  PATTERNS are arranged to make
  26.           a SONG.

  28.                When you run the program you will first see an intro  screen
  29.           and you should hear a continuous drum pattern.   Press Enter or a
  30.           mouse button for the main screen.

  32.                The screen is laid out in four basic sections.

  50.                Use the mouse to navigate these areas.  In general the  left
  51.           mouse button will make something happen, the right button will do
  52.           the  opposite.    Most screen  buttons  have  lights  to indicate
  53.           activation.   Experiment  with  different patterns.   Change  the
  54.           speed by increasing  and decreasing the  TEMPO.  Get  comfortable
  55.           with these functions before you begin programming songs.

  67.                With  the pattern buttons (Rock  1, Funk 1,...)  you set the
  68.           drum  pattern.   "Rest" for  no pattern.   The left  mouse button
  69.           selects  the pattern.    The right  mouse  button (while  in  the
  70.           pattern section) is the same as a rest selection.

  77.                These  buttons set  the  operating mode.    In PATTERN  mode
  78.           view/play/edit individual patterns.  In SONG mode  arrange a full
  79.           length song  using the  pattern buttons.   LOAD mode to  select a
  80.           file  store on  disk.    In  CONFIG adjust  individual instrument
  81.           volume  and  stereo  left/right  positioning.    (stereo  is  not
  82.           available on the Sound Blaster Basic models).

  89.                These buttons control sound  output.  The left button  turns
  90.           it on  the right turns  it off.  In  the case of  TEMPO, the left
  91.           mouse speeds up the song, right to  slows it down.   Turn LOOP on
  92.           to  make individual patterns loop while in PATTERN mode, and make
  93.           a song  continuously repeat while in  SONG mode.    Use STEREO to
  94.           toggle between mono and stereo output.

  101.                SAVE  will   write  all   patterns  and  the   current  song
  102.           arrangement to  disk.   NEW  clears all patterns and  the current
  103.           song arrangement  so  that  PC Drummer  can  be  programmed  from
  104.           scratch.   RESET restores the  program to the startup state.  Use
  105.           QUIT when you have had enough for now.

  117.                These PATTERN mode buttons operate on the currently selected
  118.           pattern.   Use NAME to change the button label.   Use  SEGMENT to
  119.           change the  number  of segments  in  the pattern  (Rock/Funk  are
  120.           generally 16ths,  Jazz/Blues  in triplets).   COPY will  copy the
  121.           currently  selected pattern to a newly specified pattern.   CLEAR
  122.           will blank out the currently selected pattern.

  128.                These SONG  mode buttons will help you edit a song.   Change
  129.           the song name with the NAME  button.   INSERT will insert a  REST
  130.           pattern where the song pointer is currently located.  DELETE will
  131.           delete the  pattern at the song  pointer.   CLEAR  will erase the
  132.           entire arrangement.

  139.           left/right  stereo  positioning.     A  filter  on/off  button is
